Overview

Anyone can learn to play the guitar or bass! And learning correctly from the start with a qualified teacher and a proper instrument makes all the difference in the world.  Owings Mills Music Academy instructors are professionals dedicated to the art of the guitar/bass who will guide you toward becoming the best you can be.

What's the #1 reason to study guitar or bass at Owings Mills Music Academy?

Our mission is to inspire our students to bring out their best!  Our friendly instructors have the knowledge and expertise to customize a program for each student, whether that student is a 6-year-old beginner, or a 50-year-old returning to lessons for a refresher program.  We work with each student to achieve their goals and encourage them to go further than they thought possible!

What styles of guitar/bass do you teach?

We teacher beginners the fundamentals that are required for all styles of music, including classical, jazz, rock, pop, country, blues, and more.  While mastering the fundamentals, students can work on specific styles with their teacher - just ask!

How qualified are Owings Mills Music Academy instructors?

The Owings Mills Music Academy requires that our instructors have degrees or major college studies in guitar or bass.  This means that our instructors have learned the art of guitar/bass performance and teaching from prestigious institutions like the Peabody Institute, the University of Maryland, Towson State University, and other fine institutions.  Many of our teachers are also active performing artists, touring in the US and internationally.

What will I learn from guitar/bass lessons at Owings Mills Music Academy?

All of our students learn important fundamentals, like reading music, technique (to gain strength and dexterity in the fingers), theory, and more.  The skills our students learn allow them to play in any genre or style.  And students can even request to have their favorite music incorporated into the learning the process.

Do I have to know how to read music?

No. We specialize in teaching the beginner who has never read music before!

Do I need to purchase a guitar or bass?

We have teacher-approved guitars for around $100 (students receive a discount) that students can use for free during their first lesson, but you will need your own guitar after the first lesson.  If you already have your guitar, bring it in to make sure that it works for the lesson!  If not, be sure not to buy until you have spoken to your teacher about the type of guitar and size that will work best for learning. Since some guitars sold online and at discount stores are like toys (not suitable for lessons), we prefer that students wait to talk to us if they don't have an instrument yet.

Do you have recitals?

We have 2 large recitals per year that bring together students from all of our academies.  Students who participate receive special awards on stage for progress and for specific accomplishments.  We also have honors recitals and other opportunities for student performances throughout the year.

Take the next step and call 410-833-1895 to get a lesson time that works for you.  Space is limited, so don't hesitate! You can also email us, or request more info.

Interested in a different instrument?

We have many options to choose from!  If you don't see your instrument below, contact us - we might still be able to help.
