• Why are Artist Music's Academies temporarily switching to virtual lessons? •
Virtual lessons are the Artist Music's response to the COVID-19 pandemic. While private music instruction is low risk and does not violate the CDC recommendation to avoid meetings of 10 or more, Artist Music started virtual lessons during our March makeup week as an option for those wanting to stay at home due to COVID-19..
On March 23, 2020, Maryland Governor Larry Hogan announced an executive order requiring many Maryland businesses and services to close, including private music academies. Until that order is rescinded, all music lessons in Maryland must be taught virtually.
Although virtual lessons are not quite the same as in-person lessons, they are much better for students than no lessons at all. At a minimum, virtual lessons give teachers an opportunity to assess student progress, correct mistakes, and give new assignments. In best-case scenarios, virtual lessons can accomplish nearly all of what personal lessons accomplish. In fact, there are well-known teachers with students with long-distance students who conduct almost of all of their lessons virtually.
