Overview

Anyone can learn to play the piano! And learning correctly from the start with a qualified teacher and a proper instrument makes all the difference in the world.  Lutherville Music Academy instructors are professionals dedicated to the art of the piano who will guide you toward becoming the best pianist that you can be on one of the Academies studio acoustic grand pianos.  You don't need a piano at home to start, and we even allow students to practice at the Academy.  And for those who want a great instrument at home, we offer payment plans and rental arrangements on new and used digital and acoustic pianos.

What's the #1 reason to study piano at the Lutherville Music Academy?

Our mission is to inspire our students to bring out their best!  Our friendly instructors have the knowledge and expertise to customize a program for each student, whether that student is a 4-year-old beginner, or a 50-year-old pianist returning to lessons for a refresher program.  We work with each student to achieve their goals and encourage them to go further than they thought possible!

What styles of piano do you teach?

We teacher beginners the fundamentals that are required for all styles of music, including classical, jazz, rock, pop, country, blues, and more.  After mastering the fundamentals, students can request to work on specific genres.

How qualified are Lutherville Music Academy instructors?

The Lutherville Music Academy requires that our instructors have degrees or major college studies in piano.  This means that our instructors have studied the art of piano performance and teaching at prestigious institutions like the Peabody Institute, the University of Maryland, Towson State University, and other fine institutions.  Many of our teachers are also active performing artists, having toured in the US and internationally.  In addition, Lutherville Music Academy piano faculty are trained in the Trinity College of London certification program.

What will I learn from piano lessons at the Lutherville Music Academy?

All of our students learn important fundamentals, like reading music, technique (to gain strength and dexterity in the fingers), theory, and more.  The skills our students learn allow them to play in any genre or style.  And students can even request to have their favorite music incorporated into the learning the process.

Do I have to know how to read music?

No. We specialize in teaching the beginner who has never played or read music before!  But we will also work with those who can already read to achieve greater proficiency.

Do I need a piano at home?

You don't need a piano to start, and we even offer students a chance to practice at the Owings Mills and White Marsh Music Academies (first come, first serve).  Having the wrong practice instrument can damage progress, so we prefer that students wait to talk to us if they don't have an instrument yet.  In addition to practice opportunities, we have affordable rental and payment plans on teacher-approved digital and acoustic pianos for the home.

Do you have piano recitals?

We have 2 large recitals per year that bring together students from all of our academies.  Students who participate receive special awards on stage for progress and for specific accomplishments.  We also have honors recitals and other opportunities for student performances throughout the year.

Take the next step and call 410-493-1954 to get a lesson time that works for you.  Space is limited, so don't hesitate! You can also email us, or request more info.

Interested in a different instrument?

We have several options to choose from!  If you don't see your instrument below, contact us - we might still be able to help.
