History
Founded by Dr. Jarl and Irene Hulbert, the Artist Music Academy opened its Perry Hall/WHite Marsh facility in 2002. With a mission to bring the community musical instruction of the highest quality, the Artist Music Academy has, from its founding, required higher levels of education from its teachers than the majority of institutions in the region. And Artist Music Academy may be the only institution that requires grand pianos for its private piano lessons - an arrangement made possible by the founding of Artist Music Center (Artist Music's retail store) in 2010.
With substantial growth (mainly by word of mouth), Artist Music opened its Reisterstown facility in 2010. And with the help of a generous arrangement with TrinityLife Church of Lutherville, Artist Music absorbed Towson's Maryland Performing Artist Institute and established its Lutherville academy in 2016.

Mission
Our name, “ARTIST,” is an acronym for our motto: “Artistic Rewards Through InSpired Teaching.” True, music is a reward in and of itself, but at Artist Music Academy, we strive to do more than just teach, we strive to inspire. In pursuit of our mission, we combine high-quality musical instruction with performance and evaluation opportunities. While we are grounded in the ideals of classical training, our teachers approach each private student with flexibility and seek to cater to individual needs and aspirations.
